Billy Mullaney & Niels Weijer: Magic Show

Do you wonder how the excitement and mystery of a magic show can exist even if no actual magic is taking place? Billy and Niels return to KoresponDance with a world premiere that aims to reveal the mechanisms used to create illusions and pay homage to Copperfield’s art.

How do magicians direct the audience’s attention? How does a system of movement and mirrors produce an illusion? To find out, come play along with Billy and Niels and cheer on a Magic Showfeaturing two performers who are clearly not magicians! Recall with them the world of glossy playing cards, grandiose visuals, kitschy choreography to ‘80s music, smoke machines and "chance” audience participation. While neither Billy nor Niels knows how to perform magic, their humorous manipulation of the tools and cliches of illusionists creates a truly entertaining homage to the magic show. 

World premiere!!! 

Billy and Niels met at the Žďár Estate in 2016, brought together by the choreographic platform FILLIMIT@KoresponDance. A year later, they returned and, with great success, introduced the premiere of their Corridor Piece, which they repeated several times in the Czech Republic.

Billy Mullaney (USA) & Niels Weijer (NL)

Billy (USA) is based in Amsterdam, while Niels (NL) is based in Berlin and you can often see them performing together across Europe. Billy Mullaney is a dancer, choreographer and performer. He experiments with the most diverse forms of performance ranging from quantum physics lectures to children’s televisions shows to Broadway musicals to tarot readings. Niels Weijer is a dancer, choreographer, photographer and visual artist. He describes his artistic practice as a way to share his way of seeing the world through geometry. Niels and Billy are returning to Žďár two years after their Corridor Piece, set in three of the castle’s halls, won over the audience at KoresponDance 2017.
